How to winter-proof your skin

Your wardrobe isn’t the only thing that needs updating this winter. Our skin needs extra protection too. And it’s not just the colder temperatures outside that can cause problems, it’s also the drying effect from being indoors and the central heating.

The answer – layer up on super nourishing creams and lotions and treat your skin gently. Here are my top six essentials to help keep your skin well moisturised and glowing until spring.

  1. Exfoliate

No moisturiser or serum is going to work its best if it’s battling against dry, flaky skin. An exfoliator is a good place to start. My advice? Add one into your routine once or twice a week (if you don’t already do so) and you’ll find products will not only penetrate better but will work much more effectively too. Our Oxygen Skin Polish gently buffs away dead skin cells and leaves skin soft, smooth and revitalised and it’s gentle enough to be used daily.

  1. Cleanse

Harsh weather conditions and constant alternating between cold and warm conditions can leave skin as dry as a bone. Try switching to a milky cleanser and you’ll prevent further dehydration thanks to its richer, creamier texture. Pat skin dry too instead of rubbing. You need to handle winter skin gently. Crystal Clear’s own Wipe Away the Years Cleansing Milk is a beautiful luxurious formulation infused with vitamin C, an oxygen complex, norgel for long-term hydration and essential oils to leave skin cleansed and hydrated, without stripping it of its essential natural oils.

  1. Moisturise

Super hydrating formulas are the way to go. A good moisturizer will help replenish the skin

If you find your skin getting a bit dry during the day, give it moisture top-up  and lightly spritz your face with a hydrating mist.

  1. Combat redness

A rosy glow from a brisk walk is one thing, red, flaky, irritated skin is another. Cold air, biting winds, low humidity and fluctuating temperatures can all strip your skin of much needed moisture, leading to winter redness. Using a richer moisturiser will help replenish skin as will layering it with targeted treatment products. If this condition sounds like your skin, then Super Booster Redness Erase is perfect for you. With Lavender extract to help reduce inflammation and Endothelyol, a unique ingredients that helps drastically reduce skin redness and rosacea, along with other rich actives, you simply apply a thin layer before your moisturiser or serum during the day or for a more intensive treatment sleep with it on overnight.

  1. SPF

One to keep going all year round no matter the weather. It’s just as vital to protect against harmful rays during the winter months too. Always wear a minimum of SPF40 to protect skin from sunspots and wrinkles. I only ever use our Protect & Repair SPF40 on my face which stands me in good stead whatever the season. It offers both UVA and UVB protection so you can be sure your skin is fully protected.

  1. Brighten

Keeping skin exfoliated is one way to get skin glowing all winter long; so too will layering up with a radiance-enhancing product. My top ingredients to look out for that are guaranteed to dial up a mega watt glow include Niacinamide (vitamin B3) and vitamin C for brightening and illuminating and hyaluronic acid which visibly plumps and hydrates for a luminous finish. You can get all of these in our superbooster serum Radiance Enhance. Effortlessly effective, you can use all over your body if you like!
